Minor Surgery

Facilities are available in the surgery for a wide range of minor operations, including the removal of skin tumours, moles and toe nail surgery.

Patients must see their GP before a minor surgical operation is undertaken to discuss the procedure and any important features such as risk of scarring and recovery time.

Cosmetic surgery is also regarded as low priority and we ask patients not to request valuable minor surgical time to deal with skin tags or minor skin problems. See your doctor if unsure.

Ante-natal Clinic

The ante-natal clinic is by appointment and is held on Wednesday and Thursday 14:00 - 16:00

Hypertension

Patients with high blood pressure should attend the hypertension clinic for annual review, to be offered advice and treatment to promote long-term health.

Community nurses

Community nurses provide nursing care and advice to the housebound and those recently discharged from hospital.

Messages maybe left and handed on to them by contacting the surgery on the appointment line.

Community Midwives

Midwives are attached to the practice and are involved in all aspects of ante/post-natal care. Parentcraft and relaxation classes are held at Bedford Road Health Centre and may be booked through your midwife.

Health Visitors

The Health Visitors' aim is to promote good health and prevent ill health. They are available to give advice where specific needs are identified within the individual, family or community, e.g. expectant mothers,children, the bereaved, elderly and those with special needs. Their telephone number is 01438 781356, 09:00 - 10:00 and 16:00 - 17:00. Messages may also be left on this number at other times and at the surgery.

Macmillan nurses

Macmillan nurses visit and support patients with cancer, in their own homes.

What is a Macmillan nurse

Macmillan Cancer Support  is a UK wide charity devoted to supporting people living with cancer.

There are almost 2000 Macmillan nurses. Most of them are based in the community and see patients at home but some work in hospitals or hospices .

Macmillan nurses are specially trained to help cancer patients and their carers in a number of ways. These include:

Macmillan nurses are available to people at any time after a cancer has been discovered and are not just involved in the support of those who are terminally ill or dying. They often give invaluable support to people with curable cancer as they go through their treatment journey.

If you think you would like to see a Macmillan nurse then all you have to do is talk to your GP or your hospital medical team (either the doctors or the nurses) and they will arrange it for you.

Community Pyschiatric nurses

Community Psychiatric nurses can help with elderly confused patients and other mental health problems at home.

Non-NHS/Private Services

We offer a wide range of medical examinations that may be required for insurance purposes, pre-employment, Leisure pursuits etc. The reception team will be able to advise you of the fee payable for these services when you book your appointment. Fees charged vary for different medicals.

If you are referred on for specialist treatment, then please tell the doctor if you have private health cover before you are referred to the NHS.

There is a fee payable for any forms you may need a doctor to complete. You will be informed of the fee when the forms are given in. Please allow a minimum of seven working days for the completion of these forms.

In the case of passport application forms the doctor must have known you for minimum of 1/2 years. You will need to make an appointment with the doctor for this documentation to be completed.

Please note : If you pay by cheque we require a cheque guarantee card. We do not accept credit card.

Private Health Insurance

Travel Information

The only travel vaccinations we provide on the NHS at this practice are:-

Tetanus/diphtheria/polio
Hepatitis a
Typhoid

Hepatitis b vaccine is available as a private vaccine therefore will incur a fee. Details of the current fee are available at reception.

We do not provide any other private travel vaccines at the surgery. We are not a travel health clinic so we do not provide in depth travel consultations or information regarding vaccines which we do not provide at the surgery.

Some anti-malarial medications are available to purchase from pharmacies. Some however require private prescriptions which are available from your GP.

We politely request that all travellers research their destination on one of the recommended web sites prior to attending for thier consultation. Please bring in a copy of your itinerary.

A copy of any previous immunisations that you have is particularly important if you are newly registered at the surgery as we may not have access to your previous immunisation history when you attend.

It is important for us to know if you have allergies or if you are pregnant.

Please ensure you book your appointment for travel vaccinations 6-8 weeks in advance of your departure date as you may require a course of immunisations. We may not have appointments for travel at the last minute.
