Are you a carer or being cared for?

At the surgery, we try to collect information on patients who are either a carer or are being cared for by someone.  We would like to bring to their attention an organisation called Carers in Hertfordshire.
Carers in Hertfordshire provide free quality services (including information, advice, and support) to all carers throughout Hertfordshire.  A carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour who could not manage without their help.  This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, substance misuse or disability.  Anyone can become a carer, carers come from all walks of life, all cultures and can be of any age.

If you are a carer and contact Carers in Hertfordshire you can expect to:

• Receive a free and confidential service
• Receive free quarterly newsletters
• Receive information on your rights as a carer
• Meet other carers at free workshops and support groups including their new Carers and Learning Project that offers a range of free courses and learning events
• Be signposted onto other organisations who can give specialist advice and support including benefits advice and getting a break from your caring role
• Be given the opportunity to get involved in discussions, listening events and consultations or become a carer trainer
• Be given advice on looking after your own health needs
